Identity Management

When it comes to marketing a brand, a corporate identity is always built. Meaning your target market will always recognize your product or service along with that separate “persona” you have invested so much in creating. There are several levels of protection for your brand which help you avoid problems with fake units or people pretending to work for your company. One of those levels of protection is a Trademark.

A trademark allows your corporation to own that brand without anyone having the right to use it, unless you allow that person or entity to do so. By having a trademark, you have the law on your side. If someone decides to use your name brand on their product to gain exposure and profit, you can simply demand a “Cease and Desist”. If they ignore, or deny the alegations you can continue by placing a law suit of trademark infringement.

Corporate identities are an extremely delicate part of the distinct corporate culture. It is the corporation’s face, or personality as some people choose to describe it. Many companies, such as McDonalds and Microsoft have many identities which allow them to be profitable. With companies like Microsoft owning thousands of trademarks, it is a daunting tast to manage those identities without spending hours doing so.

A logo is a perfect example of a corporate identity. When you have someone design a brand, then a logo, and later present that logo to your consumer, you are creating a new entity inside your corporation. Managing a corporate identity is extremely hard because there is so much exposure of that brand by the use of your marketing techinques, that people want to latch on to your success. This presents a massive problem for your company, with the possibility of loss of profitability, wrongful lawsuits, and many other perils that will harm that brand.

Managing a corporate identity has become an extremely big business simply because there are so many corporations who need it. Building a corporate identity is now the normal way of doing business, so expect to run into scammers and squatters who will want to take advantage of your success.
